The Monday Realness
Karen sums it up quite nicely - CJ Hollenbach does NOT do it for me. And he looks a little suspect with his head back, eyes closed, feeling the heat from the florescent light as the sun goes down, hmmm…
Bam reviews Bonnie Dee’s Bone Deep. Makes me wanna pick it up.
Solaine and Amiga review Jan Springer’s Colter’s Revenge via AIM:
Solaine (S), Amiga (A)
S: whats up? did you read this story? umm, colter’s revenge by jan springer
this woman gets infected with the X-Virus which makes her submissive to men *rolls eyes*
A: i hated that story
S: that story is so stupid
A: i know i hated it
S: Shit makes me think my niece could write a novel
what kinda line is this: “Another command. The submissive feeling washed over her again. This time she didn’t bother to fight it. She needed all her strength to do what he’d just told her to do.“
the submissive feeeling washed over her?
like passed over her, she was annointed with the feeling
because of the virus
A: i know
it was horrible
i can’t say it enough
S: ugh
how does this person get a contract?
A: the thing is, i’ve never liked the books in this series
never
the first one made you think it was going to be a threesome
but they run away to live on a boat
S: hahaha
this is a series?
A: yes
it’s horrible
S: ok, he is now inserting ginger root into her canals for sexual pleasure
*sucks teeth*
I am done, going to bed
A: k, night

IM review … interesting way to do one
CJ was, if I remember my Old Testament correctly, the first professional model who would give EC a chance. Other models EC tried to contract for covers wouldn’t risk the negative potential to their careers by doing an EC cover (whether because erotic, ebook, who knows). I guess there is a loyalty factor.
I’ve been in the same room as most of the EC cavemen … I know I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting the guy in the pic below

But I hear he’s a tremendous sweetheart and works with the authors at signings (i.e. he will come and sit between two authors and switch around between which authors he’s with rather than attracting reader traffic away from where the authors are signing). You can sell, it’s said, a helluva lot more books if he’s snuggled up against you (and even if you don’t, dayum, makes it worth the 400 mile round trip). (and, when I say “i hear” — i mean authors i’ve signed with have no problem giving their real opinion on some of the cover models — so safe bet he really is a sweetheart)
this guy in the pic below works the room pretty well, too.

isn’t necessarily an author’s best friend in the way the other is, but has a very convincing way about him that can make a reader think he was there just for her.

It is a great marketing technique and not used very often in selling books, has it?
It wasn’t even a review, more a convo and then I was like, what dorky readers actually IM about this stuff?
June 5th, 2006 at 2:15 pm
apparently there are at least two dorky readers who do ;-)
not sure what the other q is? having male romance models at book signings? EC is only one i’ve heard of, but then i don’t pay much attention
there are, of course, the Mr. Romance contest at RT every year (or whatever conference) — that is a reader draw, too

I think i only asked one question, but in a very incoherent way. I blame final papers.

Yes C J is a real sweetheart and not just to the authors. H e is careing and thoughtful to his fans too. I had plenty of hugs from him at R T 2006 . His picture was not even supposed to be on the E C Quickie series as they rewarded his years of work for them by fireing him just after RT. They have since continued to use his image on thier books without his permisson or any kind of repayment. Apparently they cant afford him but they can’t sell books without him
